Portrait · 2026

I spent nearly nine years at Skuid and Nintex building People Ops from the inside. Through hiring waves, an acquisition, comp resets, and the first hard employee relations issues. I learned what holds when companies grow fast, and what quietly falls apart when no one is looking.

Story-Built is what I wish founders had when I was the one being hired to fix things later.

§ The Framework
How the work moves, in order.

Built in four phases.

Phase 01Weeks 1 to 3

Foundation

The non-negotiables. Compliance, employment basics, the paperwork that keeps you out of court. Boring, necessary, finished in weeks.

01 / 04
Phase 02Weeks 4 to 8

Systems

Hiring, onboarding, performance. The repeatable machinery so you stop reinventing the wheel every fifth hire.

02 / 04
Phase 03Ongoing

Culture

Rituals, feedback, the way disagreement works on your team. The stuff candidates ask about and most founders fumble.

03 / 04
Phase 04As you grow

Scale

Manager enablement, leveling, comp bands. The infrastructure that holds as headcount doubles, without quietly killing what made you good.

04 / 04
Principles
Five things that guide the work.
01

Hire slower than feels comfortable.

02

Onboarding that sticks beats orientation that doesn't.

03

Your first ten hires are your operating system.

04

Culture work, not posters.

05

People first, paperwork second.

Fun fact

Every Story-Built engagement opens with the same question: what does this team want to be true about itself in two years?

§ The first questions
What founders ask before they email.

Answers, before the email.

Read the long version
01What does Story-Built actually do?

Fractional People Ops for founders. Hiring systems, policies, onboarding, leadership cadence, and the boring infrastructure that quietly holds a culture together.

02How small is too small to bring you in?

Ten people is the floor. Below that you mostly need a great template and an hour on the phone. Above that, the work starts compounding fast.

03Where do most engagements start?

Office Hours. A working session, an audit, or a single fire. Then we decide together whether it makes sense to keep going.

04Is this remote, on-site, or somewhere in between?

Remote-first, on-site when it matters. I am based in Chattanooga and travel for hiring sprints, leadership offsites, and the occasional hard conversation.

05How quickly can you start?

Office Hours and templates ship immediately. Fractional retainers typically begin within two weeks of the intro call.
